COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
BSLF offers community programs for both after
school and summer camp providers. The literacy
programs are modeled after the successful 1st
and 4th-5th grade programs that have reached
hundreds of thousands of children in schools
across the nation.
BSLF has had successful piloted programs with the
Boys & Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts of America, as well
as many other local after school and summer
camp programs. |
To begin the program, children receive their own hardback
copy of Little Black, A Pony to read in the program and at
home, as it is theirs to keep. An activity-based integrated
curriculum is provided to staff, which includes arts
& crafts, music, math, reading and writing for the children.
Non-compulsory workshops are offered to staff to assist in
effective implementation of the program. At the culmination
of this reading program, children take a field trip to a local
venue to experience a live horse interaction and fun filled day!

The fourth-fifth grade program continues the legacy
of reading by providing all the children with their own
copy of The Black Stallion, a universally recognized
children’s classic. Children are also introduced to the
critically acclaimed 1979 movie of the same name.
The program concludes with the Black Stallion Literacy Show, featuring the Black Stallion himself!
This highly popular and effective program can be used with classes in fourth grade or first semester of fifth grade.
